Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MR-142 (phentolamine ophthalmic solution 0.75%) is a topical, non-selective alpha-adrenergic antagonist being developed by Viatris and Kindeva Drug Delivery for the treatment of visual impairment in low-light conditions (mesopic vision) following keratorefractive surgery (such as LASIK, PRK, and SMILE). By antagonizing alpha-1 and alpha-2 receptors on the iris dilator muscle, the drug induces miosis (pupil constriction) without affecting the ciliary muscle, thereby avoiding cycloplegia. This reduction in pupil size limits the entry of peripheral unfocused light rays, which reduces photic phenomena like glare and halos and improves contrast sensitivity. The drug has received FDA Fast Track designation and has demonstrated positive results in the pivotal Phase 3 LYNX-2 trial.
