Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two separate medications: phenylephrine, a decongestant that narrows blood vessels to reduce swelling and congestion in the nose and sinuses, and allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to treat gout, kidney stones, and high uric acid levels. When used together, allopurinol may have effects on phenylephrine's vasoconstriction properties. Allopurinol has been shown to prevent nitroglycerin-induced tolerance and intensify endothelium-dependent vasodilation, which could potentially interact with phenylephrine's vasoconstrictive effects.
