Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phenylpropanolamine + chlorpheniramine is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product manufactured by Chemidrug Industries in Nepal. It combines phenylpropanolamine, a sympathomimetic amine that functions as a nasal decongestant, with chlorpheniramine, a first-generation alkylamine antihistamine. Phenylpropanolamine acts as an agonist at alpha-adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction of the respiratory tract mucosa and a reduction in nasal congestion. Chlorpheniramine serves as a potent H1 receptor antagonist, blocking the effects of histamine to alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and itchy eyes. This combination is indicated for the symptomatic relief of the common cold, allergic rhinitis, and other upper respiratory allergies. While phenylpropanolamine has been withdrawn from many Western markets due to safety concerns, it remains available in certain regions as a generic medication.
