phIL12-GET is a gene therapy approach that utilizes intratumoral delivery of a plasmid encoding interleukin-12 (phIL-12) via gene electrotransfer (GET). The therapy aims to stimulate the immune system by increasing local and systemic production of IL-12, which in turn activates immune responses against tumor cells. The primary mechanism involves stimulation of the interleukin-12 receptor (IL-12R), leading to enhanced anti-tumor immunity. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of skin tumors such as basal cell carcinoma and cutaneous malignant melanoma. The developer and main active organization is the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana[1].
