pHIS-HIV-AE is an experimental DNA vaccine candidate developed by the Kirby Institute for the prevention of HIV-1 infection, specifically targeting the AE clade (subtype) prevalent in Southeast Asia. The vaccine utilizes a DNA vector to deliver HIV-1 genes, intended to prime the immune system as part of a heterologous prime-boost strategy. In clinical evaluation, it was administered alongside a recombinant fowlpox virus boost (rFPV-HIV-AE) expressing matching antigens. A Phase I/II trial (NCT00333424) in healthy Thai volunteers was initiated to evaluate safety and immunogenicity but was subsequently terminated.
