Overview

PHIT (Piel Humana de Ingeniería Tisular) is an autologous, tissue-engineered human artificial skin substitute developed by the Andalusian Network for Design and Translation of Advanced Therapies (Red Andaluza de Diseño y Traslación de Terapias Avanzadas). It consists of a nanostructured biomaterial scaffold composed of human fibrin and agarose, which is seeded with autologous fibroblasts and keratinocytes derived from a patient's skin biopsy. PHIT is designed for use in reconstructive surgery to replace skin lost during the excision of tumors, such as basal cell carcinoma, or for the treatment of extensive burns and chronic ulcers. The product facilitates the regeneration of both the dermal and epidermal layers, providing a functional and aesthetic replacement that integrates with the patient's own tissue while minimizing the risk of immunological rejection.
