Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phleum pratense allergenic extract is a standardized allergen immunotherapy containing pollen extracts from Timothy grass (*Phleum pratense*). It is designed to induce immunological tolerance to grass pollen allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis or rhinoconjunctivitis. The extract contains major allergens (such as Phl p 1 and Phl p 5) that bind to IgE and are processed by antigen-presenting cells to be presented to T-cells. This exposure shifts the immune response from a Th2-dominated allergic response to a regulatory T-cell (Treg) response, characterized by the production of IL-10 and TGF-beta, and induces the production of allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies that compete with IgE, thereby reducing allergic symptoms and inflammation upon subsequent exposure to grass pollen.
