Pholiota adiposa extract is a botanical extract derived from the edible mushroom *Pholiota adiposa*, commonly known as the chestnut mushroom. In preclinical studies, particularly for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the ethanol extract (EPA) has demonstrated antitumor activity by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting angiogenesis. The mechanism involves the modulation of apoptosis-related proteins such as BAX, Bcl-2, and Cleaved Caspases, as well as the downregulation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). Additionally, the extract has been shown to modulate the intestinal microflora, increasing beneficial bacteria and decreasing harmful species, suggesting a potential role in the gut-liver axis for cancer therapy.
