Phoscap

Phoscap is an oral phosphate supplement formulated as a capsule containing 3 mmol of phosphate. It is primarily used to prevent or treat hypophosphatemia, a common side effect associated with the administration of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject). By providing exogenous phosphate, Phoscap aims to stabilize serum phosphate levels in patients undergoing treatment for iron deficiency or iron deficiency anemia, particularly in the preoperative setting. It was evaluated in the Phase 4 DeFICIT trial led by Donat R. Spahn at the University of Zurich, where it demonstrated a reduction in the incidence of hypophosphatemia compared to placebo.
