Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phoscat is a brand of phosphate binders marketed by Steadfast Medishield (now Steadfast Limited) for the management of hyperphosphatemia in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease - Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD). The product line includes Phoscat, which primarily contains calcium acetate, and Phoscat FER, which contains ferric citrate. These agents function by binding to dietary phosphate within the gastrointestinal tract to form insoluble complexes that are subsequently excreted in the feces. This mechanism prevents the systemic absorption of phosphate, thereby helping to maintain normal serum phosphorus levels and reducing the risk of secondary hyperparathyroidism and metabolic bone disease in patients with end-stage renal disease.
