Overview

Phosphorus-32 (P-32) colloid is a radiopharmaceutical developed by the Center for Molecular Medicine for the treatment of stage II and III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It consists of the radioactive isotope phosphorus-32 in a colloidal suspension, which is administered via CT-guided interstitial injection directly into the tumor. The isotope emits high-energy beta particles that travel short distances, inducing lethal DNA damage in cancer cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. In clinical trials, it has been investigated as an adjuvant to external beam radiation and chemotherapy (cisplatin and vinblastine) to improve local control of unresectable or inoperable lung tumors.
