Phosphorylated cyclocarya paliurus polysaccharide (P-CPP) is a structurally modified natural polysaccharide derived from the leaves of *Cyclocarya paliurus*, a plant native to China commonly known as the sweet tea tree. The phosphorylation modification is employed to enhance the biological activity and solubility of the native polysaccharides. In preclinical studies, particularly in murine models of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, P-CPPs have demonstrated potent anti-inflammatory and gut-regulatory properties. The mechanism of action involves the suppression of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways, specifically the NF-κB pathway and the NLRP3 inflammasome, which leads to a reduction in cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6. Furthermore, P-CPPs strengthen the intestinal barrier by upregulating tight junction proteins like occludin and claudin-1, as well as the mucus barrier protein MUC-2. The compound also modulates the gut microbiota, increasing microbial diversity and the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which contributes to the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis.
