Phosphorylated nano-chitosan (Pchi) is a biomimetic remineralization agent used in restorative dentistry, specifically for treating noncavitated white spot lesions (WSLs). It is a phosphorylated derivative of chitosan nanoparticles designed to mimic the function of natural phosphoproteins in the enamel matrix. By providing a high density of negatively charged phosphate groups, it acts as a template for calcium ion sequestration and subsequent precipitation of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP). This scaffold-like mechanism facilitates the deep remineralization of the dental subsurface and the regeneration of hydroxyapatite crystals, restoring the structural integrity and elemental composition of the enamel. It is often evaluated in combination with calcium and phosphate sources to enhance its regenerative potential.
