Phosphorylcolamine, also known as O-phosphoethanolamine or phosphorylethanolamine, is a small molecule belonging to the class of organic compounds called phosphoethanolamines. It consists of an ethanolamine backbone with a phosphate group attached. In biological systems, it serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of key membrane phospholipids such as phosphatidylethanolamines and sphingomyelins[10][1]. Experimentally, it has been studied for its potential pharmacological properties and has been identified as an inhibitor of protein kinase C beta type[1]. While it has attracted attention in some countries (notably Brazil) for unapproved use in cancer treatment, clinical trials have not demonstrated efficacy and its use remains controversial and unapproved by major regulatory agencies[10][1].
