phSC-Hhom-4 is a human parthenogenetic homozygous stem cell line developed by International Stem Cell Corporation (ISCO). It is derived from unfertilized human eggs through a process called parthenogenesis, which results in pluripotent stem cells. As a homozygous line, it carries a single set of HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) genes, which allows it to be immunologically compatible with a significant percentage of the human population. This "HLA-matching" strategy is designed to minimize immune rejection following transplantation, potentially serving as a universal or semi-universal source for various cell-based therapies, such as those for Parkinson's disease, liver disease, or retinal disorders.
