Overview

PHSRN peptide is a synthetic pentapeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence Proline-Histidine-Serine-Arginine-Asparagine. It is derived from the synergy site of fibronectin, a major extracellular matrix protein involved in cell adhesion and migration. PHSRN acts as a ligand for integrin α5β1, working cooperatively with the RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) sequence to enhance cell-matrix interactions. In the field of ophthalmology, PHSRN peptide is being developed as a topical eye drop treatment for intractable corneal epithelial disorders and persistent corneal epithelial defects (PED). By promoting the migration and adhesion of corneal epithelial cells, the peptide facilitates the closure of non-healing wounds on the ocular surface. Clinical development is primarily centered in Japan, notably through research at Osaka University.
