Overview
Phyllanthus niruri extract is a herbal preparation derived from the Phyllanthus niruri plant, traditionally used in Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Malay medicine. The extract contains bioactive compounds such as lignans (e.g., phyllanthine and hypophyllanthine), alkaloids, and flavonoids (e.g., quercetin). It has demonstrated hepatoprotective, antiviral (notably against hepatitis B virus by blocking DNA polymerase), antibacterial, hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, anti-urolithiatic (kidney stone prevention), and antihyperuricemic properties in preclinical studies. Clinical trials have shown mixed results for chronic hepatitis B treatment. The primary indications are liver disorders and antiviral therapy; it is also used for kidney stones and urinary tract health[1][2][3][5][8].
