Overview

pHyph is a non-antibiotic vaginal tablet developed by Gedea Biotech for the treatment and prevention of bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). The product contains glucono-delta-lactone, which hydrolyzes into gluconic acid upon contact with vaginal moisture, effectively lowering the vaginal pH to a physiological range (around 4.0–4.5). This acidification inhibits the growth of anaerobic bacteria associated with BV and yeast species like Candida, while supporting the restoration of a healthy Lactobacillus-dominant microbiome. pHyph is designed to provide a localized, antibiotic-free alternative to standard treatments, potentially reducing recurrence rates and the development of antimicrobial resistance.
