Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Physio-L is a sterile, intraocular irrigating solution specifically formulated for use during ophthalmic surgeries, such as cataract extraction and vitrectomy. Developed by Senju Pharmaceutical, it serves as a physiological replacement for the natural aqueous humor, which is often depleted or replaced during surgical maneuvers. The solution contains a balanced blend of essential electrolytes—including sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride—along with sodium acetate, sodium citrate, and glucose. These components work synergistically to maintain the osmotic balance and provide metabolic support to the corneal endothelial cells and other intraocular tissues. By preserving the integrity of the corneal endothelium, Physio-L helps prevent postoperative corneal edema and ensures better visual outcomes for patients undergoing complex or lengthy ocular procedures.
