Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Physiologic saline + esmolol dummy is a placebo control intervention used in clinical research, specifically in the randomized, blinded, crossover trial NCT03533179. It consists of intravenous physiologic (0.9%) saline administered at a volume and rate designed to mimic the loading dose and continuous infusion of the beta-blocker esmolol. This dummy infusion is used to maintain blinding in studies investigating the hemodynamic effects of treatments like glucagon in the context of beta-adrenergic blocking drug overdose. As a placebo, it contains no active pharmacological ingredients and has no biological target.
