Overview

physiological solution-Nantes University Hospital-discal sciatica refers to a specific placebo/control intervention used in the HIATUS (Efficacy of Corticoid Infiltration Via Sacro-coccygien Hiatus in Discal Sciatica) Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT01482897). Conducted by Nantes University Hospital, this intervention consists of a 10 ml anesthetic block using 1% xylocaine (lidocaine) followed immediately by a 20 ml injection of physiological saline solution administered via the sacro-coccygeal hiatus. The solution serves as a control to determine if the therapeutic effects observed in patients with subacute discal sciatica (affecting L4L5 or L5S1 levels) are due to the active corticosteroid (prednisolone acetate), the mechanical volume effect of the injection, or the natural history of the condition. While the saline itself is pharmacologically inert, the intervention includes a local anesthetic to maintain the study's blinding and procedural standards.
