Overview

Anticholium is an injectable small molecule drug containing physostigmine salicylate, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of central anticholinergic syndrome (CAS), delayed postoperative awakening, and as an antidote for intoxications caused by anticholinergic substances such as tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and tropane alkaloids. By inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, it increases the concentration of acetylcholine at the synapse, thereby enhancing cholinergic neurotransmission in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Additionally, Anticholium is utilized in clinical research as a pharmacological probe to investigate cholinergic modulation in cognitive functions and neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and age-related cognitive decline.
