Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phyto Nova Sutherlandia Gel is a topical herbal preparation developed by Phyto Nova, a South African company specializing in indigenous plant medicines. The gel contains a 20% m/v extract of *Sutherlandia frutescens*, a plant native to South Africa with a long history of traditional medicinal use. It is formulated to provide soothing relief for symptoms associated with inflammatory skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis. The product is reported to possess anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, analgesic, and anti-bacterial properties. Classified as a complementary medicine rather than a pharmaceutical drug, it was not evaluated by the South African Medicines Control Council. The developer, Phyto Nova Pty Ltd, has since been dissolved, and the product is no longer actively marketed.
