Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phytostatin is a herbal dietary supplement developed by Omnifarma Kiev for the management of dyslipidemia and the support of healthy lipid metabolism. The active ingredient is red yeast rice extract, which provides Monacolin K. Monacolin K is a naturally occurring compound that is structurally identical to the statin drug lovastatin. It functions by inhibiting the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. By reducing endogenous cholesterol production, Phytostatin helps lower total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in individuals with mild to moderate hyperlipidemia. It is positioned as a natural alternative or adjunct to conventional lipid-lowering therapies.
