Phytosterol esters of omega-3 is a **combination product consisting of omega-3 fatty acids (primarily eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] and docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]) esterified with plant-derived phytosterols**[2][7][5][8]. This dual-action supplement is designed to modulate lipid metabolism with two synergistic mechanisms: - Omega-3 fatty acids reduce hepatic triglyceride synthesis and increase fatty acid oxidation, thereby lowering triglyceride concentrations. - Phytosterol esters impair absorption of dietary cholesterol in the intestine by competing with cholesterol for incorporation into mixed micelles, reducing serum LDL cholesterol. Clinical trial evidence suggests that n-3-PSE can reduce **triglycerides (by ~19%)** without an associated increase in LDL cholesterol (which is commonly seen with omega-3 monotherapy), and may also lower blood pressure and inflammation markers such as hsCRP[2][7][8]. Studies indicate additional potential benefit in improving hepatic steatosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)[7][9].
