Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PHYX-004 is a preclinical-stage synthetic cannabinoid-based small molecule drug candidate originally developed by Phytanix Bio, which was later acquired by Protagenic Therapeutics. It is part of a pipeline of modified cannabinoid and stilbenoid compounds designed to target the endocannabinoid system for various therapeutic applications. PHYX-004 is specifically being developed for urological indications, including overactive bladder (OAB) and potentially interstitial cystitis. The compound is engineered to provide the therapeutic benefits associated with cannabinoid receptor modulation while optimizing for tissue specificity and minimizing off-target effects. Following a reverse merger, the assets (including PHYX-004) became subject to a repurchase option by the former owners, Alterola Biotech and EMC2 Capital, exercisable in late 2025.
