Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PI 82 is a standardized, non-hormonal, purified extract derived from the pollen and pistils of specific grasses, including rye (*Secale cereale*), orchard grass (*Dactylis glomerata*), and Scots pine (*Pinus silvestris*). Primarily used to alleviate vasomotor symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes and night sweats, as well as symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), it serves as a non-estrogenic alternative to hormone replacement therapy. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve the modulation of the serotonergic system in the central nervous system, specifically by inhibiting serotonin reuptake, which helps regulate thermoregulation, mood, and sleep. Additionally, PI 82 contains superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimics, including flavonoids and polyphenols, which contribute antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The extraction process removes the pollen shells and allergens, making it suitable for individuals with pollen allergies.
