Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pibrentasvir is a direct-acting antiviral agent used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It is classified as an HCV NS5A inhibitor, acting by blocking the NS5A protein, which plays a critical role in viral RNA replication and virion assembly. Pibrentasvir exhibits pan-genotypic activity against HCV genotypes 1 through 6 and is effective even against strains resistant to other NS5A inhibitors. It is most commonly administered as part of a fixed-dose combination with glecaprevir (an HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor) under the brand name Mavyret, developed for patients who have failed previous therapies or are treatment-naive[2][4][5]. The drug was developed by AbbVie.
