PIC10 is a synthetic naphthoquinone-derived small molecule developed by researchers at the Federal University of Espirito Santo in Brazil. It was rationally designed as a potential antineoplastic agent to address chemoresistance in ovarian cancer, specifically targeting cisplatin-resistant lineages. The compound is part of a series of molecules developed with the rationale of depleting polyamines and modulating multiple cellular pathways to bypass drug resistance and inhibit tumor cell proliferation. In preclinical in vitro studies using the OVCAR3 cell line, PIC10 demonstrated high potency with an IC50 of 9.13 µM, showing greater efficacy than cisplatin in reducing cellular metabolic viability in that specific model.
