Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Picataxel (SPARC1023) is a novel taxane derivative developed by Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company Limited (SPARC) for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. As a member of the taxane class, picataxel acts as a microtubule-stabilizing agent; it binds to tubulin, promoting the assembly of microtubules and inhibiting their disassembly. This stabilization interferes with the normal dynamics of the mitotic spindle, leading to cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and subsequent programmed cell death (apoptosis). SPARC1023 has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials as both a single agent and in combination with carboplatin to determine its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in patients with refractory or advanced malignancies.
