Piceatannol tetraglycolate is a synthetic stilbenoid derivative developed primarily as a stable and skin-permeable prodrug of piceatannol. By substituting the four hydroxyl groups of the naturally occurring polyphenol piceatannol with glycolic acid moieties, the molecule exhibits significantly improved chemical stability and enhanced transdermal delivery compared to its parent compound. Upon application to the skin, it is believed to undergo enzymatic cleavage by esterases to release piceatannol and glycolic acid.
