picloxydine

Picloxydine is a bisbiguanide antiseptic and antibacterial agent primarily used in ophthalmic solutions for the treatment of superficial ocular infections and trachoma. It is structurally similar to chlorhexidine and exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal or bacteriostatic activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves disruption of bacterial cell membranes by interacting with the lipid bilayer, leading to leakage of cellular contents and bacterial death.
