Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Picomium is a branded formulation of chromium picolinate (500 mcg) being investigated as an adjunctive therapy for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic renal impairment (diabetic nephropathy or chronic kidney disease). Developed by Dr. Malik Hassan Mehmood, it is a coordination complex of trivalent chromium (Cr³⁺) and picolinic acid. The drug acts by potentiating insulin signaling at the insulin receptor level, thereby improving glycemic control and potentially metabolic parameters in patients with renal complications. It has been evaluated in a phase 2 clinical trial as an add-on to stable antidiabetic medications.
