Overview
Picroliv is a standardized hepatoprotective fraction derived from the roots and rhizomes of the medicinal plant *Picrorhiza kurroa*. It is a mixture of iridoid glycosides, primarily consisting of picroside I and kutkoside in a 1:1.5 ratio. Originally developed by the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) in India, it is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials by BioAgile Therapeutics for the management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Picroliv exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including potent antioxidant activity, stabilization of hepatocyte membranes, and inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNF-alpha and NF-kappaB. It has been studied for its potential in treating various liver disorders, including viral hepatitis, drug-induced hepatotoxicity, and cirrhosis.
