Overview

SWAN-PSMA-1007 (piflutmetofol f 18) is an 18F-labeled radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent developed and manufactured by Swan Isotopen. It is a small molecule ligand designed to target the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a transmembrane protein that is significantly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells compared to normal tissues. Following intravenous administration, the tracer selectively binds with high affinity to the enzymatic site of PSMA, enabling the detection and localization of prostate cancer lesions through positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It is primarily utilized for the initial staging of high-risk prostate cancer and the localization of recurrence in patients with rising PSA levels (biochemical relapse). SWAN-PSMA-1007 is approved for clinical use in Switzerland, offering high-resolution imaging and the logistical advantages associated with the longer half-life of fluorine-18 compared to gallium-68 based tracers.
