Pikasol

Pikasol is a concentrated omega-3 fatty acid supplement containing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It was investigated by Oslo University Hospital in the OMEMI (Omega-3 in Elderly with Myocardial Infarction) trial to determine its effects on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in elderly patients (aged 70-82) who recently experienced an acute myocardial infarction. The trial tested a daily dose of 1.8 g of EPA and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to provide cardiovascular benefits through anti-inflammatory, anti-arrhythmic, and lipid-lowering mechanisms, although the OMEMI trial specifically found no significant reduction in major cardiovascular events in this elderly population compared to a corn oil placebo.
