Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pill-University of Central Florida-social phobia refers to the inactive placebo control arm used in a Phase 3 randomized controlled trial led by Dr. Deborah Beidel at the University of Central Florida. The study, titled "Treatment of Childhood Social Phobia," compared the efficacy of Social Effectiveness Therapy for Children (SET-C), the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) fluoxetine (Prozac), and this pill placebo in children and adolescents aged 7 to 17. The placebo was administered as matching capsules provided by Lilly to ensure a double-blind design against the fluoxetine arm. Results indicated that the placebo group had a significantly lower response rate (6%) compared to the active treatment groups, establishing a baseline for the therapeutic effects of the behavioral and pharmacological interventions being tested.
