Overview

MR-139 is a 0.3% ophthalmic ointment formulation of pimecrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor. It was developed for the treatment of blepharitis, specifically targeting inflammation and debris at the eyelid margins. The primary mechanism of action is inhibition of calcineurin, leading to reduced T-cell activation and decreased cytokine release, which suppresses the inflammatory response. The ointment is self-administered to the eyelids twice daily.
