PIMT siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the enzyme protein L-isoaspartyl (D-aspartyl) methyltransferase (PIMT), also known as PCMT1. PIMT is a protein repair enzyme that converts abnormal L-isoaspartyl residues back into normal L-aspartyl residues, and it is found at high levels in the brain. Research, particularly in glioblastoma models like U87-MG cells, has demonstrated that PIMT expression is upregulated when cells detach from the extracellular matrix and that it possesses pro-angiogenic properties. By utilizing siRNA to knock down PIMT, researchers have observed a significant reduction in glioblastoma cell migration and invasion in various assays, including wound healing and Matrigel invasion assays. This suggests that PIMT's catalytic activity is a critical factor in the invasive potential of malignant glioma cells, making it a potential therapeutic target for glioblastoma growth inhibition.
