Overview

Pindolol is a synthetic, nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta blocker) with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA). It is primarily indicated for the management of hypertension and, in some regions such as Canada, for the prophylaxis of angina pectoris. Pindolol works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in the heart and blood vessels, leading to decreased heart rate and blood pressure. Its partial agonist activity at beta receptors results in less reduction of resting heart rate compared to other beta blockers without ISA. Pindolol is administered orally and has a relatively short half-life requiring twice-daily dosing[1][2][4].
