Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pine needle oil is a botanical extract derived from the needles of pine trees, such as *Pinus sylvestris* or *Pinus mugo*, via steam distillation. Developed and marketed by Robugen, it is used as an active ingredient in over-the-counter (OTC) herbal remedies, such as Tumarol Kinderbalsam N, to treat respiratory tract congestion, bronchitis, and the common cold. The oil contains active monoterpenes, including alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, and limonene, which provide secretolytic, bronchospasmolytic, and mild antibacterial properties. It is typically administered topically as an ointment or via inhalation to help clear mucus and ease breathing.
