Overview

Pineamin is a peptide bioregulator developed by the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in collaboration with Geropharm. It consists of a complex of water-soluble polypeptide fractions (PPG class) extracted from the pineal gland (epiphysis) of young animals. The drug's primary mechanism of action involves stimulating melatonin synthesis and restoring the melatonin-forming function of the pineal gland, which typically declines with age. Pineamin is formulated as a lyophilisate for intramuscular injection and is indicated for aging-related conditions, sleep disorders, endocrine disorders, and climacteric syndrome in women. Clinical studies have shown that it significantly increases the urinary excretion of 6-sulfatoxymelatonin, a metabolite of melatonin, in elderly patients, indicating improved pineal function.
