Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pingchuan Formula (PCF) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal prescription developed by Professor Yu Jianer at the Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of bronchial asthma, particularly in children. The formula is composed of several herbs, including Honey Ephedra, Scutellaria baicalensis, Honey Perilla Seed, Semen Raphani, Bitter Apricot Seed, Peeled Peach Kernel, Earthworm, and Honey Licorice. PCF exerts its anti-asthmatic effects by modulating immune responses, specifically by restoring the balance between Th1/Th2 and Th17/Treg cell populations. It has been shown to regulate the expression of transcription factors such as Foxp3, RORγt, GATA-3, and T-bet, and to influence the Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathways (TLR-2, TLR-4, TLR-9) in dendritic cells. Clinical and preclinical studies suggest it improves airway inflammation and reduces asthma symptoms with fewer side effects compared to conventional corticosteroids like dexamethasone.
