Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pinggan Yuyin Qingre formula (PGYYQR) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Beijing Tongren Hospital for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)-related dry eye disease (DED). Administered orally as granules, it is specifically indicated for patients exhibiting the TCM pattern of 'hyperactivity of Yang due to Yin deficiency.' The formula works within the TCM framework to nourish the liver and kidney, soothe liver Yang, and relieve liver heat, which helps to reduce ocular inflammation and improve the quality of meibomian gland secretions. Clinical trials have demonstrated that when used as an add-on therapy to sodium hyaluronate eye drops, PGYYQR significantly enhances tear film stability and improves palpebral margin health, particularly in patients with moderate to severe symptoms.
