Pingkui enema

Pingkui enema is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription that has been used clinically for many years to treat diarrhea and dysentery. It is currently being investigated for its therapeutic potential in ulcerative colitis (UC). The mechanism of action involves the regulation of gut probiotics, specifically increasing the abundance of *Bifidobacterium*, and modulating inflammatory cytokines by reducing pro-inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-8 (IL-8), while increasing anti-inflammatory interleukin-13 (IL-13). Additionally, Pingkui enema appears to protect the intestinal mucosal barrier, as indicated by reduced serum levels of D-lactic acid (D-LA) and diamine oxidase (DAO).
