Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pingwei capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Affiliated Hospital of Gansu University of Chinese Medicine, primarily indicated for the treatment of functional dyspepsia. It is a modern capsule adaptation of the classic TCM formula "Pingwei San," which has been used for centuries to treat dampness-stagnation in the spleen and stomach. The preparation typically consists of several botanical ingredients, including *Atractylodes lancea* (Cangzhu), *Magnolia officinalis* (Houpo), *Citrus reticulata* (Chenpi), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gancao). Its mechanism of action involves the regulation of gastrointestinal motility and the modulation of gut-brain peptides such as motilin and gastrin. In clinical practice within China, it is utilized to alleviate symptoms such as abdominal bloating, early satiety, and epigastric pain associated with impaired gastric emptying.
