pinus echinata pollen

Pinus echinata pollen is a non-standardized allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the shortleaf pine (also known as yellow pine). It is indicated for the skin test diagnosis and subcutaneous immunotherapy treatment of patients with immediate hypersensitivity (Type I) allergies to Pinus echinata. The extract works by inducing the production of allergen-specific IgG 'blocking' antibodies and modulating cell-mediated immunity, which reduces the IgE-mediated release of histamine and other mediators from mast cells and basophils upon allergen exposure. Marketed under brand names like Yellow Pine Pollen and Shortleaf Pine Pollen, it has been available in the U.S. since the 1970s-1980s under Biologic License Applications (BLAs) held by Greer Laboratories and Allermed Laboratories.
