Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pinus elliottii pollen extract is a biological allergen extract derived from the slash pine (*Pinus elliottii*). It is primarily utilized as a diagnostic tool in allergenic testing, such as skin prick tests or intradermal testing, to identify IgE-mediated hypersensitivity in patients suspected of having seasonal allergies to pine pollen. The extract contains the naturally occurring proteins and allergens found in the pollen of the slash pine species. When introduced to the skin of a sensitized individual, the allergens in the extract cross-link specific IgE antibodies on the surface of mast cells, triggering the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators that produce a characteristic wheal-and-flare reaction.
