Overview

Pinus nigra pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the *Pinus nigra* (black pine) plant. It is primarily utilized as a diagnostic biologic for identifying allergic sensitivities in patients suspected of having pine pollen allergies. The extract is used in clinical settings for in-vivo diagnostic procedures, such as skin prick testing or intradermal testing, where it elicits a localized type I hypersensitivity reaction (wheal-and-flare) in sensitized individuals. It may also be used in-vitro to determine the presence of allergen-specific IgE. The product was first approved in the United States in 1967 and is regulated under biologics license applications (BLA101376 and BLA102223).
