Overview

Pinus ponderosa pollen is a non-standardized allergenic extract developed and manufactured by Greer Laboratories. It is derived from the pollen of the Ponderosa Pine tree and is indicated for the diagnosis and treatment of immediate hypersensitivity (Type I) allergies. Administered via intradermal, percutaneous, or subcutaneous routes, the extract functions by modulating the immune system through allergen immunotherapy (AIT). This process involves inducing changes in cell-mediated immunity, increasing the production of allergen-specific IgG (blocking antibodies), and altering histamine release to reduce allergic symptoms upon subsequent exposure. The product was first licensed by the FDA in 1981 under BLA 101833.
